Sustainability at heart ❤
At Cugo Gran Collection, we place great importance on environmentally and socially sustainable practices, with excellence in every aspect of our operations at the core of our hospitality group.
Additionally, we are all aware of the increasing pressures of climate change itself. The combination of these factors has made it imperative for us as a Collection to assess how we can reduce our footprint, and even create a positive impact with our operations.
This is why we are taking certain measures to start reporting on the sustainability factors of our activities, which has led us to set out specific sustainability goals.

ENERGY SAVING
One of the main sustainability goals we have set out to achieve is the active reduction of our energy consumption, entailing both our electricity and gas consumption. To achieve this, we actively set heating restrictions to use our heating systems in the most efficient way possible. This includes switching off the heating and hot water tanks in rooms that are not being used and setting temperature limits in rooms and public spaces between 18-21 degrees Celsius. We also reduce settings on air conditioning units to optimise HVAC use and turn off AC units when rooms are not in use. Additionally, some of our hotels make use of photovoltaic panels, further reducing our dependency on fossil fuel generated energy.
WATER SAVING
Water is a valuable and life-giving source, which is why another major target for us is to reduce our water consumption. To manage this, we have incorporated measures such as setting shower and tap flow limits, only running dishwashers and washing machines on full load and with minimised rinse cycles, and covering pools in summer months. It is vital that we involve our guests in the process of achieving our sustainability goals, which is why we have put up notices in every room encouraging our guests to help us reduce our water consumption, as sheets and towels will only be changed upon request, thus reducing the amount of laundry which has a direct impact on our water consumption.
WASTE & FOOD WASTE MANAGEMENT
Apart from practicing recycling in all our hotels, we also ensure that products are not supplied to us in single-use plastic and individual containers, and instead we favour recyclable and/or bio-degradable containers. With 1/3 of the food produced for human consumption being lost or wasted globally, it is of utmost importance for each one of us to tackle this issue, which is why we encourage our guests to join us on this journey of food waste reduction by only taking as much as they can eat at our buffets – they are most welcome to come back for more. In our kitchens, we aim to create meal options that make the most out of the produce that we use to minimise produce waste. We have also begun to introduce water dispensers for drinking water for guests to make use of, removing the need for single-use plastic bottled water – thus benefitting from an eco friendly, hygienic, and cost-effective solution.
ECO FRIENDLY TOILETRIES AND AMENITIES
We have taken time to carefully select a range of eco-friendly soaps, lotions and toiletries made from either biodegradable and/or recyclable materials, and eco-friendly towels and bedding – all of which are sourced sustainably.
CARBON FOOTPRINT
We are committed to reducing our carbon footprint, meaning that we have targets to reduce both our direct and indirect carbon emissions. Through yearly supply chain audits, we make sure that our suppliers do not only meet the standards and expectations set out by us, but we also aim to reduce food miles as much as possible, meaning that we intend to source the produce we serve our guests locally and seasonally.
ECO-ACTIONS
Every month, we perform one eco-action to either celebrate a key date in the environmental and/or social calendar or to celebrate our commitment towards a more sustainable future in hospitality. Help us support nature!
On our mission to contribute to environmental conservation, we are giving our guests the unique opportunity to play a role in supporting nature. We therefore add 1€ to your bill which will go towards planting trees through Treeapp. If you wish to remove this donation, kindly let our reception staff know. This initiative not only highlights our Collection-wide commitment to sustainability but also empowers guests to be active contributors to positive environmental change, turning a simple hotel stay into a meaningful act for the planet.
Why trees matter
Trees play a crucial role in maintaining ecological balance and mitigating the impacts of climate change. They act as natural carbon sinks, absorbing and storing carbon dioxide, a major greenhouse gas responsible for global warming. Additionally, trees contribute to biodiversity, provide habitat for countless species, a livelihood for local communities, prevent soil erosion, and offer numerous other environmental benefits.
Did you know?
- 1tree offsets on average 21kg of CO2 per year (once it is fully grown)
- A one-night stay at a hotel produces 40 kg of CO2 on average
We thank-you for helping us conserve the environment.
