Making the most of Autumn in Malta

Malta is well known for being a Summer island with a glorious and long season, but as October approaches, the weather starts to slowly change. Autumn in Malta is something that everyone looks forward to and if you are one who doesn’t like the scorching heat, it’s the perfect time to plan a visit to the island. It is also the best time to appreciate the nature and landscape – the countryside starts to bloom with different colourful flowers and the sea bursts in a beautiful turquoise colour.

Here are some activities which you can enjoy during Autumn in Malta.

Top-up on your vitamin D

Being in Malta in Autumn not only gives you cooler air with the sea warm enough to still enjoy a dip, but the sun shines bright too. The beaches are less packed with people as children start school again and people are at work. So why not head to one of the many sandy beaches around the island for a swim, or even to simply enjoy the feel of the sand on your feet or a beautiful sunset. And if you are staying at the Cugó Gran Macina and not up to going out of the hotel our extraordinary rooftop pool offers unparalleled panoramic views of the Grand Harbour and the historic cities of Cospicua and Vittoriosa.

Soak up the culture

Malta has a very rich history and even though the island is so tiny, what it lacks in size it makes up in history. A must visit is Valletta – Malta’s capital city, and you can also catch the ferry for Valletta just in front of our hotel – the jetty is only a 5 minute walk. Valletta, also a UNESCO World Heritage Site will satisfy every traveller with museums, local restaurants, attractions and shops. Mdina, the former capital city is also worth a visit. Known as the ‘silent city’, you can see a sharp contrast from bustling Valletta and will be able to get a 360 view of the whole island.

Take advantage of the events

As the heat is left behind, there are numerous events which are organised across the island. If you’re into sailing, you definitely should not miss the Rolex Middle sea race on the 21st October. A nautical spectacle, the race kicks off from the Grand Harbour in Valletta and brings the crème de la crème of the sailing world in one place to battle it out on Malta’s seas. If you’re visiting the island during this time, our hotel is perfectly situated right bang in the action.

Explore the landscape

With temperatures averaging 25 degrees celsius in October, Autumn is the perfect time to grab your walking shoes and venture outside. You will find a lot of Instagram worthy spots and hues as you meander through the beautiful paths. And keep an eye out for the flowers blossoming after a long Summer. Breathe in the fresh air and admire the beautiful views.

Visit Gozo

Plan a day trip to Malta’s sister island Gozo. We are sure you will love it as the island is filled with wonderful beaches, restaurants, green lush hills and amazing views. Getting to the island is easy – you just catch a 20 minute ferry from Cirkewwa. And you will be able to wind down on the crossing, whilst admiring another island – Comino – from the boat. Gozo has a greener side and features some of the most amazing spots on the islands.

Malta is truly a gem to be discovered and Autumn is the perfect time for it. As we welcome the season with open arms, why don’t you book your trip to the island?
